Warrior I
Virabhadrasana I

About This Pose
Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I) is a cornerstone standing pose that builds strength, stability, and focus. From a lunge-like stance the front knee bends deeply while the back leg stays strong and the back heel grounds down. The hips and chest square toward the front of the mat as the arms sweep overhead, creating a gentle backbend through the upper spine. Warrior I strengthens the legs, opens the hip flexors and chest, and teaches the practitioner to root down through the back foot while lifting up through the crown. It is a key building block in Sun Salutation B and countless vinyasa sequences.
