Fish Pose (Head to Floor)
Matsyasana Variation

About This Pose
Fish Pose Head to Floor takes the chest opening of Matsyasana into a deeper reclining backbend. Kneeling with the shins on the mat, the practitioner leans back and sets the crown of the head on the floor, lifting the chest high and arching the upper spine as the hips lift and the thighs open. The hands reach back alongside the body toward the feet. This deep heart opener mobilizes the whole spine and stretches the front body, throat, and hip flexors. It is the stage between the forearm preparation and the full lifted-leg Fish Pose, and should be approached slowly with a well-warmed spine.
